What is Marketplace?

Business flight simulator. Marketplace is a sophisticated computer program that mimics the competitive, ever changing marketplace. As opposed to the traditional textbook-based course, the simulation exercise lets your students or managers learn and gain experience by making true-to-life business decisions. They deal with market analysis, strategy formulation, and management of strategy, and they see the immediate results of their actions. With this approach, they retain much more information than with the use of traditional learning methods. The simulation helps them internalize the important concepts of marketing and business management.

Fully-web based learning tool. Designed for the web, Marketplace provides the ease of use and accessibility. It eliminates the need for software installation, as well as the floppy disk problems and technical issues common in older simulations. Since Marketplace is accessible over the Internet, the simulation games can be administered by ILS in the Marketplace Processing Center. As a college instructor, training facilitator, or a participant, you can access your simulation games from any computer connected to the Internet, without worrying about the technical aspects of the game. Marketplace participants can work from different locations as a team.

Benefits for your course:

Effective learning strategy

Your students gradually build the business and the simulation introduces new issues as they become relevant. In this way, the logic of business practices becomes more intuitive. More>>

Realistic game scenario

Rather than work with imaginary products, Marketplace players build computers and sell them in several international regions. More>>

Ease of use

A narrative storyline holds together the flow of the simulation. It is designed to read like a business novel with student teams acting as the characters. A step-by-step menu guides the participants through the decision-making process in the logical order. The simulation includes an extensive online help system.

Simulation options for various learning objectives

Marketplace offers a family of online business simulations, also referred to as difficulty levels. Each one is designed for specific business course or to fit various objectives of corporate training programs. View the list of available difficulty levels.
